Mississippi RiverKings News Release
WEEK IN REVIEW (3 games / 1-2-0)
Friday, December 16 Tulsa 2 RiverKings 1 @ Tulsa
The Oilers scored two shorthanded goals to defeat the RiverKings Friday night in downtown Tulsa.
Jaroslav Cesky scored on a break at 15:44 in the first to make it 1-0 after one. Dorian Anneck tipped in a Don Parsons centering pass at 1:46 on the power play to tie it at one going into the third period. Jim Dahl's game winner came at 13:07 of the third as he snuck it under goalie Guy St. Vincent. It was just Tulsa's third win on home ice as they climbed to a game above .500. Memphis outshot the Oilers 38-22, but couldn't solve Oiler netminder Marco Emond who made a number of key saves to deny the RiverKings. The RiverKings went 1 for 11 on the power play while Tulsa was 0 for 7. Guy St. Vincent, who was activated off the IR earlier in the day, took the loss and fell to 3-5-0 on the season.
Saturday, December 17 Oklahoma City 4 RiverKings 2 @ Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City scored three unanswered goals to win their fourth straight game in a 4-2 win at the Ford Center. The loss extended the RiverKings' winless streak to six. After Tim Earle gave the Blazers a 1-0 advantage at 2:33 of the first, Memphis scored the first two goals of the second. Ryan Campbell snuck one between netminder Sean Conners and the left post at 4:29 for his team leading 10th goal of the season with Derek Landmesser and Peter Robertson assisting. The RiverKings made it 2-1 on a power play dart from the right wing by Dorian Anneck, his 9th of the season. But the momentum didn't last long in the RiverKings' favor as Ryan Johnston scored on a door step rebound at 9:41 of the second. Jared Dumba broke the tie with just :14 left in the period as he threw the puck out from behind the net, hit goalie Guy St Vincent and had it bounce in.
The lone goal of the third period was scored early at 2:47 as Dumba fed Marty Standish for the 4-2 game-finishing margin. The RiverKings out-shot the Blazers 49-28 for the game.
Tuesday, December 20 RiverKings 4 Austin 1 @ DCC
Ryan Watson, Dorian Anneck and Don Parsons each had a goal and an assist to lift the Memphis RiverKings to a 4-1 win. Derek Landmesser added a pair of assists to help the RiverKings win their first game since December 2 at Colorado. Memphis built a 3-0 lead on a first period goal by Ryan Watson and second period goals from Dorian Anneck and Travis Banga. It was the 9th of season for Watson and the team-leading 10th each for Anneck and Banga. Austin's Jason Kenyon made it interesting with a goal at 15:24 of the second making the score 3-1 to end the period, but Don Parsons' 9th goal of the season at 3:53 of the third period made the final 4-1. Guy St. Vincent stopped 24 of 25 shots to improve to 4-6-0. Matt Barnes, who stopped all 51 RiverKings shots in a 1-0 win at Austin on November 26, took the loss allowing 4 goals on 35 shots. The win ended a six game winless streak for the RiverKings and extended the Ice Bats streak to 5 non-wins.
RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE
With his third period goal last night, Don Parsons ended a nine-game goalless streak that dated back to the November 19 game at Bossier-Shreveport. The streak was the second longest such streak of his RiverKings career. He had a ten game streak in the 03-04 season. It was also his ninth goal of the season and his 270th CHL goal. He is now eight goals shy of Chris George for fifth place on the CHL's all-time goal scoring list. Dorian Anneck scored his 177th CHL goal last night and is 29th on the all-time list, two behind Jonathon Dubois' 179 goals for the 28th spot.
The RiverKings out-shot the Austin 35-35 last night. It the third game in which they have out-shot their opponents. Memphis has out-shot those last three teams (Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Austin) by a combined 122-76 (40.7-25.3 average). The last time the RiverKings out-shot an opponent in three straight games was last season at Amarillo (1/15), at New Mexico (1/17) and versus Odessa (1/19).
Last night's game was Derek Landmesser's sixth multi-assist game of the season as he notched two helpers in the win over Austin.
Tuesday night's game started a stretch where the RiverKings will play four of their next five and 10 of their next 12 games at home.
Memphis' 46 penalty minutes in Saturday's loss at Oklahoma City was a season-high.
