Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles made Central Hockey League history by breaking a CHL record with their 83rd consecutive sellout Saturday night in a 3-2 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Budweiser Events Center. In total the Eagles have had 483,936 fans come see their games in two and a half seasons where they have posted a record of 62-12-9 for a remarkable winning percentage of .801. Greg Pankewicz earned the game-winning goal at the 7:32 mark of the second period and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo stopped 21 of 23 shots for his league-leading 19th win of the season. The Eagles extended their lead in the Northwest Division to 13 points over the Wichita Thunder.
Fort Collins very own Lee Arnold tallied the first goal of the game at the 5:24 mark of the first period on a rebound effort from a shot by Brad Williamson. Colorado struck again not a minute later when Scott Polaski beat Evan Lindsay one-on-one for his second goal in as many nights giving the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. Rio Grande Valley's Kurtis Dulle cut the lead in half at the 7:49 mark when he snuck a slapshot in from just inside the blue line, and Bobby Davis tied the game only three minutes later on a shorthanded effort as he lifted the puck over the glove hand of Colaiacovo. The game had a feeling like it was to be a high-scoring affair, but the teams only combined for one more goal the remainder of the game.
Greg Pankewicz's game winning goal came at the 7:32 mark of the second period when he beat Lindsay for the third and final time of the game. Neither team was able to score on the power play tonight with Colorado going 0-4 and Rio Grande Valley 0-2. The Eagles have not allowed a power play goal in four straight games.
The real highlight of the night was a special ceremony commemorating the greatest fans in the CHL for their outstanding support. There are now two new banners at the Budweiser Events Center in honor of this historic night, one states "83" for the record breaking game, and the other states "The Fan Advantage" in recognition of the community support of Northern Colorado. The Eagles can't thank the fans and community enough for their tremendous support over the past two and a half seasons.
Colorado is on the road with two Northwest Division rivals next week. They take on the Blazers in Oklahoma City on Thursday and Friday nights, and then they travel to Wichita on Saturday to take on the Thunder. Be sure to tune into 99.9 The Point and Tori Holt for all of the Eagles road action.
