
SteelHounds doubled up by Oilers, 6-3

Tulsa, OK. - The Youngstown SteelHounds (15-21-2) mounted an early charge with a pair of shorthanded goals but fell flat in the second period allowing three goals to the Tulsa Oilers (19-16-3) who come out victorious 6-3. The win was the fifth straight for Tulsa at home who was led by Jaroslav Cesky who had two goals and two assists and turned the tides late in the first period with a successful penalty shot. Chris Richards had a goal and an assist for the Hounds.
The first period had a little bit of everything including two shorthanded goals, a power play goal and a penalty shot. The Hounds took the lead at the 1:54 mark on a shorthanded goal scored by Chris Richards who chipped a loose puck over Marco Emond for his 14th goal of the season, team leading second shorthanded marker, assisted by Darryl Lloyd. Tulsa responded with a power play goal scored by Henry Kuster who was alone in the left circle for a one-timer assisted by Jaroslav Cesky and Dan Hodge at the 5:16 mark. The goal was Kuster's 20th goal making him the third Oiler to eclipse the 20 goal mark. The Hounds came right back, again shorthanded, this time with J.F. Labarre scoring his third goal of the season assisted by Shawn Mamane scored at the 6:36 mark giving the Hounds 2-1 lead. Tulsa would tie the score at the 16:42 mark on a penalty shot goal by Cesky, his 22nd goal of the season. Tulsa had the first and only penalty shot versus the Hounds back on November 11th when Jim Dahl beat David St. Germain. This time it was Cesky making Tulsa 2-for-2 on the penalty shot versus the Hounds. Youngstown outshot the Oilers 10-9 in the period.
The Oilers took their first lead early in the second period with Mario Joly scoring after picking up a rebound off his own shot and walking around St. Germain scoring his 11th goal of the season assisted by Dahl at the 1:09 mark of the period giving Tulsa a 3-2 lead. The Oilers added to their lead at the 13:10 mark on a scramble in front of the net that saw Kuster slap the puck by St. Germain for his 21st goal of the season and second of the night assisted by Paxton Schulte. Late in the period, Tulsa made it a 5-2 lead with Cesky scoring on a one-timer off a nice feed from Klage Kaebel at the 18:16 mark of the period. The Hounds squandered four power play chances in the period and were outshot 19-8 in the period.
Tulsa added to their lead in the third period on their fourth power play chance with Dahl lifting a shot over Simon St. Pierre who started the third period in place of St. Germain (St. Pierre's first action since Dec. 22nd). The goal by Dahl was his team-leading 24th of the season assisted by Cesky and Marek Dora. Youngstown cut the lead in half with Jeff Christian scoring his 34th goal of the season assisted by Richards and J.R. Holmes at the 14:19 mark of the final period cutting the lead to 6-3. The Oilers outshot the Hounds 37-25 in the game as Emond improved to 13-9-1 with the win and St. Germain falls to 11-16-2 with the loss.
Youngstown concludes their brief road trip tomorrow evening with a 6:05 PM (EST) face-off versus Wichita.
Game Notes: The goal by J.F. Labarre was his first since December 9th when he scored his only two goals of the season in Amarillo. Darryl Lloyd's first period assist ended a six-game scoreless drought for the second year player. Chris Richards has five goals and 10 assists and is a plus- 4 in his last 10 games. David St. Germain's start was his 13th straight start and his 22nd straight game he has played in.
