Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME
- Markus Vidicek & Mathieu Cataford each scored twice as the Halifax Mooseheads blanked the Eagles 4-0 in Halifax Sunday afternoon.
- Jordan Dumais notched three assists, moving into first all time in points for the Halifax Mooseheads, breaking the record previously held by Brandon Bennedict, who was in attendance to see his record broken.
- Cape Breton's Lubos Stahon was awarded a penalty shot in the opening period but was unable to score on Mathis Rousseau. It was the only infraction called in the entire game, as the contest was played entirely 5 on 5.
- Rousseau stopped all 36 Eagles shots in picking up the shutout, while Nicolas Ruccia stopped 26 of 30 in the loss.
The opening 20 minutes was played at a quick pace, the goaltenders the stars as Halifax outshot Cape Breton 14-13. History took place 15:27 into the game as Dumais fed the puck to Cataford at the side of the net, who flipped it across the goal to Vidicek to open the scoring and give Dumais his 304th career point, the most in Halifax history.
The milestone was acknowledged and the fans gave a standing ovation- but the Eagles had a chance to immediately quiet the crowd as Lubos Stahon had been awarded a penalty shot. Stahon ran out of the room and put the pick wide, finishing the period with the score 1-0 for Halifax.
Vidicek doubled the lead for the Mooseheads in the second stanza, finishing a series of passes between he and Dumais. It was a two goal game heading into the third period.
Cataford took advantage of traffic in front of the Eagles goal early in the third, flipping a backhand above Ruccia to make it 3-0. His second of the game, and of the period, finished the scoring to make it 4-0.
The Eagles continue their Maritime road swing with an afternoon to visit to Saint John and the Sea Dogs. Puck drop is 2 PM Atlantic time.
