Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Governors' Cup champion Colorado Eagles announced today the signing of two impact players for the 2009-10 hockey season. Forwards Dan Welch and Ryan McLeod (pronounced: Mc-Loud) bring a history of offensive productivity to a team that led the CHL in that category last season.

"These two players will add talent to our existing group of forwards from last year's Northern Conference championship team," said Colorado Eagles President & General Manager Chris Stewart. "Dan was an NHL draft pick and Ryan is a player we're familiar with and have been impressed with for a long time. Both should fit into our system very nicely."

Welch, chosen in the 8th round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, has spent nearly all of the past seven seasons at the AHL and ECHL levels, while also playing 111 games overseas. In his professional career, the Hastings, Minn. native has put up 248 points (96-152-248) and 377 PIMs in 346 games. Under the CHL's revamped veteran limit rules, his European league games don't count against the 300-game limit.

McLeod, a member of the CHL's 2006-07 All-Rookie Team, has been a consistent point-producer throughout his four-year career -- especially when playing against the Eagles. In 116 career games, the 5-foot-10-inch, 175-pound forward has tallied 118 points (44-74-118), and that point-per-game average hasn't tailed off in the postseason either as he's registered 12 points (5-7-12) in 13 career playoff games. Furthermore, in parts of two seasons in the CHL -- 64 games in 2006-07 with New Mexico and 10 games last season with Rocky Mountain -- McLeod recorded 74 points (30-44-74).

Furthermore, in 11 career games against Colorado, the Fernie, British Columbia native has netted 12 points (6-6-12). Four of his six goals last season came in his four games against the Eagles (one in each game), and in seven games against Colorado in 2006-07, McLeod was the Scorpions' second-leading scorer in the season series with seven points (2-5-7).
