Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, CO â The Central Hockey League's (CHL) Colorado Eagles have added another new face to the roster with the acquisition of rookie forward Devin Francon (fran-kahn), Eagles VP and head coach Chris Stewart made the announcement.
"I am excited to be playing in Colorado. This is a new team and a great place to play," explained Francon. "I've heard nothing but good things about the Eagles organization and fans. This is a great opportunity for me."
Francon, a native of Melfort, Saskatchewan played six seasons of Major Junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), spending most of his time with the Red Deer Rebels. He notched 46 points (18G, 28A) and toughed out 475 penalty minutes in just 278 games. His best season was in 2000-01 in Red Deer when he tallied 11 points (4G, 7A) and 188 penalty minutes in 72 games. Francon also received the Rebels Community Relations Award for his involvement with the community throughout the same season.
After playing Major Juniors, the 6'3", 218-pound left wing played 12 games last season (2003-04) for the Bakersfield Condors in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He amassed one goal and two assists while incurring 35 penalty minutes for the Condors. A good up-and-down winger, Francon will bring physical play to the Eagles front line.
He is the ninth player signed by the Eagles for the upcoming season. With only 12 professional games played, Francon will fit under the CHL's developmental player rule stating that each team must have a minimum of five players with 128 regular-season professional games or fewer. Francon is the eighth developmental player signed by the Eagles. Defenseman/forward Lee Ruff is the only non-developmental player signed by the Eagles thus far.
The Eagles second season of play begins on October 15 and 16, 2004 against the Tulsa Oilers for two exhibition games at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The regular season begins on the road at the Ford Center against the Oklahoma City Blazers on October 22, 2004. The Memphis RiverKings are in town for the home opener on October 29, 2004 at 7:05 pm.
