Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed eight-time CHL All-Star defenseman Hardy Sauter, the team's front office announced today.

Sauter, a 5-10, 180-pound native of Maryfield, Saskatchewan, will be playing in his 10th season as a professional, ninth with Oklahoma City. Last season, Sauter led the team with 295 shots on goal and was sixth on the team in scoring with 41 points (8-33-41) in 62 games played.

He enters the 04-05 campaign as the top scoring defenseman in CHL history. The two-time CHL Defenseman of the Year also ranks sixth on the CHL all-time games played list (530), fifth in points (627), and second in assists (491). Sauter sits second in all Blazers offensive categories (except assists) behind Blazers' legend Joe Burton.

"I'm really glad to have Hardy back for another season," said Blazers head coach Doug Sauter. "I know that I can count on Hardy to play hard every night, play many minutes every night, solidify our defense and act as a leader in the locker room."

Sauter joins forward Bryan Forslund as one of two veteran players signed by the Blazers for the 04-05 season. Each CHL team is permitted to carry four players with 260-or-more games of experience at the professional level. The addition of Sauter brings the total number of players signed for the 04-05 campaign to 13.

Oklahoma City opens the 2004-05 season at home against the Colorado Eagles on October 22 at 7:35 p.m.

NOTE: For the first time ever, the Blazers are offering a "Friday Night Special." All 10 Friday night home games, including the season opener against Colorado and New Year's Eve against Topeka, are on sale for just $99. Full season ticket packages are also available.
