Dyson Named Batter of the Week

GREENSBORO, NC – The Carolina League announced that Wilmington Blue Rocks outfielder/first baseman Trey Dyson was named Batter of the Week for the week of May 29-June 4, 2003. Lynchburg pitcher and Dover, DE native Ian Oquendo was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week.

Dyson, 23, batted .474 with four doubles, three homeruns and eight RBI. For the week, the Columbia, SC native had a 1.158 slugging percentage and a .560 on-base percentage. Currently, the former University of South Carolina Gamecock is leading the Blue Rocks with a .336 batting average with 17 doubles, nine homeruns and 38 RBI. He is fifth in the Carolina League in hitting.

Oquendo went 2-0 in two starts for the Hillcats during the week. He allowed four runs in 14 innings pitched with a 2.57 ERA. On the season, the 21-year-old is 6-2 with a 3.84 ERA in 70 and one-third innings pitched.

Dyson joined teammates Kyle Middleton and Zack Greinke as earning the honor of Carolina League Batter or Pitcher of the Week. Middleton was Pitcher of the Week during the weeks of April 4-10 and April 24-30. Greinke earned Pitcher of the Week honors during the weeks of May 8-14 and May 15-21.
