Dyson Delivers Knockout as Rocks Rally Past Indians, 6-5

Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks rallied from three separate deficits and captured their first extra-inning victory in three tries with a 6-5 conquest over the Kinston Indians in 10 innings on Wednesday night. Left fielder Jarrod Dyson capped off a three-run ninth inning with a two-out walk-off RBI single just inside the third base bag, giving the Rocks a 2-1 series victory over the Indians.

Kinston broke a 3-3 deadlock in the top of the 10th inning with a pair of runs off Russ Haltiwanger (1-0), the third pitcher used by Wilmington on the night. Jared Goedert ripped an RBI double to right to plate the go-ahead tally. Carlos Rivero added a sac fly two batters later to push the Indians' advantage to 5-3.

But, just as they had done on two previous occasions, the Blue Rocks answered Kinston's shove with a push of their own. Except, this time the push was more of a haymaker.

Neil Wagner came out of the Kinston pen and fanned Anthony Seratelli to start the home 10th. But, David Wood worked a one-out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored via a Kurt Mertins double in the following at-bat. Matt Morizio then knotted the game with a ground-single through the right side that chased Mertins home. Following a Wilver Perez strikeout, Dyson delivered the decisive blow, scoring Morizio from second.

Morizio starred earlier in the contest, as his two-run triple to right field with one out in the second erased a 2-0 Kinston lead.

The K-Tribe got their first two runs off Wilmington starter Greg Holland, who was forced to leave after just two innings. The Western Carolina University product was drilled with a line drive off the bat of Jared Goedert leading off the second. Holland finished the frame but did not return for the third.

It marked the second night in a row that a Blue Rocks starter had to exit the game as a result of being struck with a line drive. Matt Kniginyzky was strung with a Beau Mills liner during Tuesday's affair and lasted just two batters into the fourth.

Everett Teaford, the second half of Wilmington's piggybacking equation for the evening, did a solid job of guiding the Rocks through the next 5.1 innings. The southpaw let up a lone run on four hits.

When Kinston took a 3-2 lead against Teaford in the top of the seventh, the Rocks immediately answered in the bottom half. Morizio, who walked to begin the frame, scored on a one-out poke to center off the bat of the night's ultimate hero, Dyson.

The Blue Rocks begin a seven-game road trip with the first of four against the red-hot Potomac Nationals on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Jason Godin (0-0), a Virginia native, will be opposed by P-Nats lefty Ross Detwiler (1-0). The Nationals have won 10 games in a row.

GAME NOTES Wilmington won despite stranding 10 runners on base, including seven in scoring position. The Rocks stranded the bases loaded in the seventh when Anthony Seratelli struck out against Indians reliever Erik Stiller.

The stolen base tally is up to 35 for the season, as the Blue Rocks swiped a season-high six sacks on Wednesday. Jarrod Dyson, Joe Dickerson, Derrick Robinson, David Wood, Anthony Seratelli and Chris McConnell each logged a steal.

Blue Rocks batters fanned 13 times against four Kinston pitchers. Wilver Perez struck out three times.
