Avs turn Keys inside out

Frederick, MD-The Salem Avalanche, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, smacked a season-high three home runs Wednesday night in taking the third game of the series with the Frederick Keys 13-6 at Harry Grove Stadium. Mark Ori blasted two of the home runs for the Avs (7-5) in beating the Keys (8-4)

In the first inning, the first two Salem batters reached and Tim Torres followed by elevating a 1-0 pitch over the right-centerfield wall against Frederick starter Brandon Erbe. Frederick responded, though, with a run in the home half and three more in the second, thanks to a two-for-two start to the game for center fielder Danny Figueroa.

In the third, Salem took the lead for good when Mark Ori served a two-run homer to center against Erbe. It was his second round-tripper of the year. He followed with a solo shot in the fifth to double the lead for Salem. It was the second two-homer game of Ori's career.

Salem then exploded for six runs in the seventh against Frederick reliever Kyle Schmidt. Jhon Florentino and Orlando Rosales each notched two RBI in the inning while Jimmy Van Ostrand and Koby Clemens each knocked one teammate home. All but two Salem starters scored a run in the game.

Ori's two-homer outburst was the first time this season a Salem batter had left the yard twice in a game. Chris Johnson most recently did so for the Avs last June 23rd against Frederick. His hit streak continues to eight games while Jordan Parraz has reached base in all 11 games he's played.

Salem returns home for the first of four with Lynchburg Thursday night at 7:07. Lefty Douglas Arguello faces Lynchburg's Michael Crotta.
