Houston Dynamo FC News Release

NEW YORK (September 21, 2009) -- Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 27 of the 2009 season. Davis scored the game-winning goal and added two assists in the Dynamo's 3-2 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Davis helped the Dynamo take a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game with a pair of pinpoint deliveries on set pieces that were converted by Brian Ching and Geoff Cameron. Ching redirected a Davis free kick from the left side of midfield past Nick Rimando in the 2nd minute. Cameron redirected a corner kick from Davis for a 2-0 Dynamo lead in the 5th minute. Real Salt Lake stormed back to tie the game with goals from Kyle Beckerman (27th minute) and Yura Movsisyan (60th minute).

Davis, a 2009 MLS All-Star, took matters into his own hands in the closing minutes and put the game away with an amazing left-footed strike from 20 yards out in the 81st minute. Cameron delivered a pass from midfield into Davis, who collected and took one touch. Davis then unleashed a powerful drive into the right side netting from a sharp angle outside of the 18-yard box. The goal was Davis' fifth of the season. His two assists in the game gave him 10 this season - second in MLS to Colorado's Omar Cummings (12).

Davis is having arguably the best season of his eight-year MLS career. He is nearing his career best totals in goals and assists. He tallied six goals in 2003 with the Dallas Burn, and recorded 11 assists in 2006 with Houston. This is Davis' third career MLS Player of the Week award and first since Week 12 of the 2007 season. Davis beat out Chivas USA's Zach Thornton and Columbus' Guillermo Barros Schelotto to capture the honor. Davis and the Dynamo do not play another league contest until Sunday, Oct. 4 when they host the Kansas City Wizards. The Dynamo are next in action on Tuesday, September 22, at 9:00 p.m. when they host Árabe Unido in CONCACAF Champions League play at Robertson Stadium, the second of six home games in 30 days.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com.
