Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo will face Stoke City F.C. of the English Premier League in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup tonight at 8 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL, or at the stadium ticket office (2200 Texas St., Houston).

The BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup, benefitting Dynamo Charities, is an annual match between the Dynamo and a prominent international opponent. Previous BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup opponents include Valencia CF (Spain), Bolton Wanderers (England), Club Deportivo Aguila (El Salvador) and CF Monterrey (Mexico). The Dynamo are 2-2-0 all-time in Charities Cup play.

Tonight's game will be broadcast live on CSN Houston, with pregame beginning at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and La Ranchera 850 AM (Spanish).

Stoke City's traveling roster includes former Dynamo defender and U.S. national team regular Geoff Cameron, English forward Peter Crouch (22 goals in 42 appearances for England), Irish striker Jonathan Walters (team-high eight goals last season) and Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios.

Proceeds from this year's Dynamo Charities Cup will go toward the "Building a Better Houston" initiative, a campaign led by Dynamo Charities, presented by the Halliburton Charitable Foundation, and BBVA Compass to make improvements in Houston's East End. The program includes: a home renovation with Rebuilding Together in May; a Food Bank event during July's Dynamo Charities Week; financial education programs for East End students in September; and the "Business of Sports" program with Junior Achievement this fall.

Stoke City was founded in 1863 and is the oldest club in the Barclays Premier League, the top tier of English soccer. The Potters are managed by former Manchester United legend Mark Hughes, who was appointed in May. Stoke City is returning to the United States this summer after they played in three American cities last year.

Stoke City was instrumental in the founding of the Football League in 1888. The Football League was formed to create a more regulated system for British clubs and was the oldest "league competition" in the history of world soccer. Stoke City was one of 12 original members of the Football League. Of the 12 original members, only four - Stoke City, Aston Villa, West Bromich Albion and Everton - will be in the English Premier League next season.

The Potters reached the 2011 FA Cup Final, falling to Manchester City 1-0. Stoke City also participated in the 2011-12 Europa League, advancing out of the group stage before losing to Valencia CF in the Round of 32.
