
Whitecaps Extend Contract of Kenny Miller

VANCOUVER, BC -- Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that Designated Player Kenny Miller has agreed to a six-month contract extension with the club. The Scottish international will now be under contract with Whitecaps FC until June 2014. Per club and league policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"This is an important move for our club and speaks to the value we place on continuity as we grow," said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. "Kenny is a great leader and his contributions both on and off the pitch have been instrumental to the success of our team. It's an exciting time for the club and we look forward to a strong finish to the 2013 campaign."
Miller, 33, became Vancouver's fourth Designated Player signing in the club's Major League Soccer (MLS) history on July 16, 2012. The 5-foot-10 striker has scored eight goals while starting 20 of his 26 appearances in just over one year in Vancouver.
"I'm delighted to sign a contract extension with the Whitecaps," said Miller. "I've really enjoyed my time in Vancouver and so has my family. The fans here are unbelievable, the club is always very professional, and I think we have a special group of players."
The alternate captain has been one of Vancouver's most consistent performers in his second season with the club. With Miller in the starting lineup, the âCaps have posted an impressive 8W-2L-1D record. The Scotsman is second on the team with six goals this season, while his four game-winning goals are tied for the second most in MLS.
After a spectacular two goal-performance in a 4-3 win over New England Revolution on June 15, Miller was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 16. Both of his goals were nominated for MLS Goal of The Week.
Internationally, Miller has scored 17 goals in 68 appearances for the Scottish national team. The native of Edinburgh, Scotland, was recently called up to Gordon Strachan's 29-man squad for next month's highly anticipated friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.
