Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Adam Jahn's headed goal was the difference as the San Jose Earthquakes captured a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Dynamo travel to face Toronto FC on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT at BMO Field. The Dynamo are next home against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The game-winning goal arrived from a free kick in the 54th minute. Matias Perez Garcia delivered a pinpoint service form the right flank and Adam Jahn rose alone eight yards from goal to head past Tyler Deric for the decisive goal.
Just three minutes later, Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia burst past two defenders at the edge of the box and drove toward the near post where he was tripped by San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham and the Dynamo were awarded a penalty kick by referee Ricardo Salazar.
Giles Barnes took the penalty and drove a low shot to his right but Bingham dove the same way and used his left hand to parry the attempt wide of goal as the Quakes kept a 1-0 lead.
Houston's other chances included a great opportunity in the 52nd minute when Barnes collected a through ball from Brad Davis and drove into the box before his shot sailed over the goal.
Later, substitute Rob Lovejoy struck a volley well from 20 yards but it stayed over the crossbar. Three minutes later substitute Will Bruin turned outside the box and lashed a low drive just past the far post. In the first half, Davis had a narrow miss from a similar effort.
