Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON -Houston Dynamo defender George Malki is expected to be out for the remainder of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
The injury occurred during practice on Wednesday, March 15. The 24-year-old defender will undergo reconstructive surgery this Friday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Tim Sittler, the team's orthopedic surgeon, at the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
"We are disappointed for George with the news of his recent injury," said Dynamo's Vice-president and General Manager Matt Jordan. "We are confident that with his work ethic and attitude he'll make a full recovery to return to the field stronger than ever."
Malki was one of the four players to sign a first-team contract with the Houston Dynamo earlier this month. Before signing a contract with the Dynamo, he played under head coach Wilmer Cabrera at RGV FC where he appeared in 25 games and finished with one goal and one assist.
The defender joined the Dynamo for the 2015 preseason before signing with Arizona United SC (USL), for whom he made 24 appearances with 11 starts in his first professional season. The Scottsdale, Arizona native was selected in the second round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact. Malki was a two-time All-Big West Conference second team honoree at California Polytechnic State University.
