"We are excited to host an iconic English team like Manchester United here at StubHub Center," said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. "As the flagship team in Major League Soccer, it is important for us to continue to host big games and bring top-level soccer to the city of Los Angeles. We are looking forward to July 15 as we host a world-class event for our fans."
Founded in 1878, the Red Devils have competed in the top flight of English soccer since 1938, with the exception of the 1974/75 season. Led by renowned Portuguese manager José Mourinho, Manchester United are one of the world's most recognized clubs due to their unparalleled success in England and in European competition. United have won 20 English First Division titles, a joint-record 12 FA Cup titles, three European Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup. Manchester United were also the first team in English history to win the treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
"José Mourinho, the team and everybody at Manchester United are excited to be staging the pre-season tour in the USA this summer," said Manchester United's Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward. "Los Angeles is a city that always gives the warmest of welcomes and we are looking forward to renewing acquaintances with our friends at LA Galaxy."
Manchester United currently boast some of the world's most talented and recognizable players, including forward Zlatan Ibrahimovi?, midfielder Paul Pogba, forward Wayne Rooney, midfielder Juan Mata, forward Anthony Martial, goalkeeper David de Gea, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and midfielder Marouane Fellaini, among others.
Manchester United will face the LA Galaxy before they participate in the 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken, where they will play against Manchester City (July 20; location TBA), Real Madrid C.F. in Santa Clara, California (July 23) and FC Barcelona in Landover, Maryland (July 26) in the fifth year of the ICC.
Since 2002, the LA Galaxy have hosted numerous international exhibition matches at StubHub Center against teams from around the world, including Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Chelsea, among others.
