Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Strong pitching helped to lead the Tri-City Dust Devils (5-6, 21-28) to the 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canadians (4-7, 19-30) in the series opener on Friday night at Gesa Stadium. Tri-City hurlers Nick Thwaits, Felix Minjarez, Ramon Perez and Deivy Mendez combined to allow only one unearned run to the Canadians.
Jordy Barley -gave the Dust Devils an early lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. The blast was his team-high eighth of the season. Vancouver tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but Tri-City countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the team a lead they would not relinquish. Perez earned the win for the Dust Devils after tossing two scoreless innings in relief and Mendez picked up his sixth save of the year.
Right-hander Ignacio Feliz will start the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday night. The Canadians will counter with right-hander Adam Kloffenstein. There will be a postgame fireworks show presented by Teamsters Local 839.
