
Dust Devils Come up Short in Home Opener

The Tri-City Dust Devils kept it close throughout but couldn't pull ahead late in a 4-2 loss against the Vancouver Canadians at Gesa Stadium on Tuesday night in front of an excited crowd of 2,751. The Dust Devils (3-3) scored two runs on four hits while the Canadians (3-3) scored four runs on nine hits.
Ty France came up big for the Dust Devils, collecting the only RBI for the team on a two out double in the bottom of the 2nd.
Walker Lockett was fantastic on the mound Tuesday. The Dust Devils starter went 5 innings, giving up just two runs on six hits and had just one walk. The right-hander also struck out 7 and now has a 2.70 ERA in his first two starts with Tri-City.
Canadians starter Clinton Hollon matched Lockett with 5 innings pitched. The right-hander surrendered 2 runs, both earned, on four hits and 2 walks while striking out five.
Travis Bergen (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Canadians after striking out eight batters in three scoreless innings pitched. Cecil Tanner (0-1) took the loss for the Dust Devils after giving up a run on two hits.
Peter Van Gansen had a double, along with France, while Henry Charles and Mitch Morales both collected hits for the Dust Devils. Alex Maldonado did most of the damage for the Canadians, collecting four hits and three RBIs.
The Dust Devils and Canadians will play the second game of their three game series at 7:15 PM Wednesday at Gesa Stadium. Wednesday will be School Night brought to you by Pahlisch Homes! Fans will be able to enjoy $1 hot dogs all night long. The Dust Devils are sending left-hander Jose Castillo to the mound while the Canadians will start lefty Evan Smith.
