The Lead: The Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Braves 9-1 in game three of the four-game series Sunday afternoon at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. The Bulls banged out four home runs and held the Braves to only two hits on the day. The Bulls lead the International League South with a 14-4 mark. The Braves drop to 7-11 and are now seven games in back of the Bulls in the division.

It Was Over When: Durham first baseman Chris Richard lifted a two-run homer to right off Braves starter Todd Redmond in the bottom of the first. The Bulls were up 2-0 at the time. It put the G-Braves in a 4-0 first inning hole.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Todd Redmond (2-2) received the loss for the Braves: His line: 4.0 IP, 6H, 6R/ER, 2BB, 4K. Redmond also gave up three home runs. Cristhian Martinez worked three innings: 3.0 IP, 4H, 3R/ER, 1BB, 4K. He also gave up a home run to Alvin Colina. Vladimir Nunez made his first appearance for Gwinnett since coming off the DL: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER.

At the plate: The Braves had a miserable day. Matt Young had the only two hits for the Braves with a double in the first to lead off the game, and a double to lead off the ninth inning. He finished 2-for-4. Freddie Freeman drove in the only run with a groundout scoring Young in the ninth. It was the 10th RBI for Freeman, which leads the team.

Bulls Beat:

On the Mound: Aneury Rodriquez started and got the win to move his record to 2-1. He has not given up a run in his two starts this season for Durham. His line: 7.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 2BB, 4K. Daye Thayer worked the final two innings: 2.0 IP, 1H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 1K.

At the plate: Former Brave Alvin Colina went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a three-run homer. Second baseman Joe Dillon went 4-for-4 with a solo homer, three runs scored and two RBIs. Chris Richard went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer. Justin Ruggiano went 1-for-4 with a solo homer to up his hitting streak to 11 games. Angel Chavez went 0-for-4 to end his hitting streak at 11 games.

On Deck: The Braves and the Bulls play the finale of four game series in Durham tomorrow morning at 11:05 a.m. RHP Ryne Reynoso (0-3, 6.06 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. The Bulls starting pitcher is TBA. Tomorrow's game will air nationally on the MLB Network.
