Syracuse, N.Y. - Josh Whitesell's homerun over the center field wall in the 13th inning gave the Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, a 4-2 walk-off win Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs (12-5) improved to 9-2 at home, beating Rochester (6-11) for the third day in a row.

The Chiefs got a boost in the late innings from outfielder Roger Bernadina, who went three for six on the day to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Bernadina made two key plays in the outfield for Syracuse, throwing out Rochester's Erik Lis at home plate to end the 10th and then making a leaping catch against the outfield wall in the 12th.

Syracuse got out to the early lead when Chase Lambin crushed the first pitch of the second inning over the wall in right field for a home run. It was the infielder's third long ball in his last four games.

After being held scoreless for the first four innings, the Red Wings answered in the fifth, tying the game at 1-1 on Danny Valencia's two out RBI double.

Rochester threatened again in the sixth. The Red Wings collected a single and a walk to begin the inning but a key defensive play by second basemen Seth Bynum helped the Chiefs get out of the jam without allowing a run. Bynum snagged a line-drive up the middle and tossed it to shortstop Pete Orr, doubling off Rochester's Trevor Plouffe at second base.

After Jason Repko's single off Syracuse reliever Josh Wilkie gave Rochester the lead in the seventh, the Chiefs came back to tie it in the eighth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Red Wings closer Anthony Slama's pitch got away from catcher Wilson Ramos, allowing Eric Bruntlett to come in from third to score Syracuse's second run of the game.

Reliever Andrew Brown tossed scoreless frames in the 11th, 12th and 13 innings to get the win for the Chiefs. Tim Lahey, who came on in the 13th inning for Rochester, suffered his first loss of the season.

The Chiefs and Red Wings will wrap up their four-game set tomorrow afternoon at Alliance Bank Stadium. Syracuse's Collin Balester (1-1, 8.59) and Rochester's Jeff Manship (1-2, 3.07) are tomorrow's probable starters. First pitch will be at noon.
