Daytona Tortugas News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Juan Duran's two out single walked-off the Daytona Tortugas (30-19, 66-52) to a 4-3 victory against the Brevard County Manatees (14-37, 37-82) in 12 innings Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark Monday night. The Tortugas rallied from three down in the ninth inning to force extra innings.
The Tortugas had no answer for Manatees starter RHP Jon Perrin. The Manatees ace carved up the Daytona lineup over seven dominant innings of shutout baseball, racking up 12 strikeouts. Brevard County jumped to a 3-0 lead through six innings courtesy of Blake Allemand. The Manatees second baseman drove in the game's first two runs with a two-out single up the middle in the third inning, before launching his third homer of the year in the sixth.
After being held down for more than eight innings, the Tortugas offense awoke with one out to go. Duran begin the rally with an infield single to give Daytona a pulse. Aquino sped up the pulse with a laser, two-run blast over the left field wall to pull the Tortugas within one, 3-2. Brian O'Grady then followed by missed a game-tying home run by a few inches, settling for a two-out triple to put the tying-run in scoring position. Pinch-hitter Gavin LaValley came through with a single to left field to knot the game, 3-3.
In the 12th, Daytona would again rally with two outs. An infield single by Ty Washington extended the inning, before Shed Long ripped a single up the middle to put runners at the corners. Duran stepped up and hit a high bounding ball over Jose Cuas at third to score Washington and give Daytona the thrilling 3-2 win. It was the second walk-off win for the Tortugas in their last five games.
RHP Alex Powers (8-0) picked up the win, as he worked a clean 12th inning. LHP Clint Terry (1-3) suffered the loss for the Manatees by allowing the game-winning hit.
Daytona treks to Dunedin to begin a crucial three-game series against the first-place Blue Jays. The Tortugas will send RHP Jose Lopez to the mound (0-1, 3.00 ERA) against RHP Connor Fisk (7-3, 3.33). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
