June 26, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
Following a disappointing loss against Eau Claire on Monday night, the Duluth Huskies traveled to Wisconsin for the second game in a home-and-home series against the Express. The Huskies (19-9) poured on eight runs and 13 hits, snapping their three game losing streak and ending Eau Claire's (12-16) four game winning streak.
The Huskies struck first in the contest, striking for two runs in the third inning. The scoring got started with an error by the Express defense that made it 1-0. Two batters later, Michael McCann (Texas) brought in another run on an RBI sacrifice fly. McCann, making his debut with the Huskies, finished 2-4 with two RBI's and a run-scored.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Express counted the Duluth two runs with two of their own against Huskies starting pitcher Matt Mogollon (Chapman University). The first run came in on an RBI double by Jimmy Glowenke (Dallas Baptist) making it 2-1. Moments later, Scott Ogrin (Cal Poly) brought in Glownke to score tying the game up at 2-2.
In the fourth, Duluth re-took the lead for good on an RBI single by Nick Sogard (Loyola Marymount). Sogard finished the night going 3-5 with two RBI's and two runs-scored.
The Duluth offense extended their 3-2 lead in the final three innings of the game, scoring two in the seventh, one in the eighth and two more in the ninth to pull away.
In the seventh, Mogollon exited the game in line for the win he would eventually get, as he was replaced by Jack Corbell (Miami Ohio).
Corbell tossed three scoreless innings, surrendering two hits while striking out two opposing hitters, helping Duluth coast to an 8-2 victory.
With the win, the Huskies maintain a one game lead in first place in the North Division with eight games to play in the first half. Duluth is back tomorrow as they host Willmar in a double-header with the first game at 12:05 p.m. and the second at 6:35 p.m.
