Saginaw Spirit News Release

Montreal, Que, CAN - The opening round of the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft took place Friday night (July 7) with Saginaw Spirit defenseman Pavel Mintyukov selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks.

This is the second time in the last three drafts, the Spirit have had a player selected in the top 10 of the first round (Cole Perfetti, 2020 10th overall - Winnipeg) and extends the Spirit's streak of having a player selected in the NHL Draft to 15 straight years.

Mintyukov, 18, finished the 2021-22 regular season with 62 points, becoming the first Spirit defenseman in team history to lead the team in scoring at seasons end. The Russian-born defenseman was selected by the Spirit in the first round of the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

In March, Mintyukov was named to the Kubota CHL NHL Top Prospects game played in Kitchener, Ontario. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Moscow, Russia native was named to the OHL Third All-Star Team.

Mintyukov was rated as the No. 6 North American skater and the No. 1 North American defenseman by NHL Central Scouting heading into the Draft.

This is the first Spirit player to be selected by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks / Ducks Franchise.
