Ducks Roll Past Riversharks

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 11, 2010) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 8-2 on Wednesday night at Suffolk County Sports Park.

After a first inning RBI single off the bat of Camden's Brian Burgamy, the Ducks grabbed the lead with a three-spot in the subsequent frame. A RBI single by John Rodriguez and two-out, two-run single by Matt Esquivel gave Long Island a 3-1 lead.

A run-scoring wild pitch by Randy Leek in the top of the fourth cut Camden's deficit to one, but the Ducks struck back with three more in the bottom of the fifth off Sharks' starter Brad Knox. Matt Padgett's RBI sacrifice fly and RBI singles by Robinson Cancel and Johnny Hernandez gave the Flock a four-run advantage.

Long Island opened the contest up in the home seventh as Erick Monzon ripped a two-run double into the left-center field gap, pushing the Ducks' lead to 8-2.

Leek (10-6) picked up the win, surrendering nine hits and two runs (one earned) in his seven innings of work. Knox (4-5) was charged with the loss, yielding six runs (four earned) in four and one-third innings.

Navarrete and Esquivel each picked up three hits, while Rodriguez and Hernandez chipped in with two.

The Ducks wrap up their four-game series against the Riversharks on Thursday.Game time is set for 7:05 PM with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive QuackerJack Bobbleheads, courtesy of Dantona Industries. Kyle Jackson gets the start for Long Island against the `Sharks' Gabriel Alfaro.
