Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 13, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Newark Bears on Saturday 7-3 before a past-capacity crowd of 6,187 at Citibank Park.
Estee Harris got the Ducks on the board first with a leadoff homer in the second. In top of the second, Ducks' starter Troy Cate surrendered a dinger to Bears' third baseman Andres Perez to tie the game at one. The Flock took the lead for good as they plated two more runs in the third frame and put the hammer down with a three-spot in the fourth. Alex Prieto's leadoff dinger in the third and Juan Francia's two-run triple in the fourth helped give the Flock some breathing room. Lew Ford added a RBI single to left field and the Ducks never looked back.
Cate (3-1) fired five innings, yielding two hits and one run, while striking out four. Randy Leek, Joe Valentine and Billy Simas pitched the final four innings to preserve the win. Johnny Hernandez and Francia each enjoyed a three-hit night and the Ducks banged out 12 base hits en route to their third win in a row.  The Ducks conclude their homestand on Sunday against the Newark Bears. Game time is 1:35 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 12:35 p.m. Jake Dittler takes the mound for Long Island against Newark's Shawn Chacon. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Team Photos, by Premio. Fans will also be invited onto the field for a pregame autograph session with the 2009 Long Island Ducks, as well as following the game for Kids Run the Bases, courtesy of Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Fans unable to attend can tune into all the action on WNYG 1440 AM or online at www.liducks.com, with Chris King calling the play-by-play.
