(New Britain, Conn.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 9-6 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.

The Ducks wasted no time, scoring in the top of the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to left from L.J. Mazzilli. However, the Bees would claim the lead in the fourth inning after a two-run home run from Jason Rogers and a three-run home run off the bat of Logan Moore, totaling the score at 5-1.

The Ducks would get a run back in the top half of the sixth when Mazzilli launched a one-out solo home run to left-center field. New Britain, though, answered back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on a throwing error, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Ryan Jackson, bringing the score to 8-2.

Long Island added a run in the seventh when Vladimir Frias came around to score on a passed ball. The Ducks then scored three runs on five hits in the eighth, including RBI singles from Hector Sanchez, Deibinson Romero and D'Arby Myers. An RBI triple from Darren Ford in the home half of the inning rounded out the scoring.

Bees starter David Roseboom (2-1) picked up the win for New Britain after tossing seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Joe Iorio (5-3) was tagged with the loss for Long Island, lasting four and two-thirds innings, yielding five runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Jim Fuller earned his 16th save of the season for New Britain after pitching a perfect ninth inning.

L.J. Mazzilli led the Ducks offensively, going 2-2 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs scored and a sacrifice fly.
