Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 4, 2004) â For the second consecutive evening, the Long Island Ducks struggled on the mound and in the batter's box, suffering a 10-3 defeat tonight at the hands of the Bridgeport Bluefish at Citibank Park. Despite the loss, Long Island remains 3 ½ games ahead of the Pride in the Atlantic League's North Division with a record of 18-9.
Bridgeport's offense got started early on Ducks starter Lance Davis (2-3) tonight, plating two runs in the first off the former Cincinnati Red and one more in the second. Long Island pulled to within 3-2 at the end of four after scoring single runs in each of the second and fourth innings, but that was as close as it would get. The Bluefish plated four runs in the fifth off of Davis to take a commanding 7-2 advantage and never looked back. In all, Davis allowed 14 hits, seven runs (six earned) and one walk in six innings of work.
Kevin Henthorne improved to 4-0 for Bridgeport, going six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Terrance Hill and Brian Warren came on to close out the victory for the Bluefish.
Offensively for the Ducks, outfielder Wendell Magee continued his hot hitting of late, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
