Dubuque Rolls Youngstown with Second Period Outburst

Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the Dubuque Fighting Saints by a final score of 7-1 in Iowa Sunday night. It was Youngstown's most lopsided loss since early October.
"There were too many times our defensemen got beat cleanly, that was really our biggest issue. I felt like there were three or four times when they could have contested an opponent and didn't, and that led to our downfall," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
The first period was highly contested, with both goalies making impressive saves to keep the game scoreless. Dubuque would draw first blood late in the first frame, however, when a wrist shot from Nathan Sucese beat Phantoms goaltender Colin DeAugustine blocker side.
Dubuque would take a one-goal advantage into the first intermission, and wasted little time putting the game out of reach, scoring four goals in a span of just over nine minutes. The Fighting Saints scored four goals in the second period, and took a 5-0 lead into the locker-room after 40 minutes.
The Fighting Saints would push their lead to 6-0, when Gordie Green scored his fifth goal of the season just over six minutes into the final period.
Youngstown kept fighting, and was finally rewarded when Noah Lalonde scored his first ever USHL goal. Lalonde found the back of the net after Tommy Apap and Garrett Hall worked well together to win possession in the Dubuque zone.
Dubuque would add another tally in the final minute of regulation to win 7-1. It was the second time this season Dubuque have scored seven goals in a contest.
"We had a couple of guys who played well tonight, and a handful who played very poorly. Coming off a break with a long road trip, the situation wasn't exactly ideal, but we didn't even give ourselves a chance tonight," Wroblewski said.
Youngstown will be back in action Tuesday, December 29th, against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is set for 7:05p.m. eastern time.
