Omaha, Neb. - Patrik Virtanen made 28 saves and Tye Ausmus earned his first USHL goal as the Stars topped the Lancers, 5-2, on Sunday night in Omaha.
The Lancers opened the scoring at 11:48 of the first period when Keegan Ward tossed a shot from below the goal line that slipped under Virtanen's leg pad.
Brian Williams made it 2-0 for Omaha lead less than one minute later when Brian Williams buried a rebound from outside the crease.
Stars defenseman Ryan Jones cut the lead and made it 2-1 with his third goal of the season at 14:54 of the first.
The Lancers took a 12-11 shot advantage into the first intermission.
Grant Jozefek found the equalizer at 15:43 of the second, making it 2-2 with his eighth goal of the season and third on the power play.
The Stars took their first lead of the game following a penalty kill to start the third period. Ausmus scored at 6:04 of the final frame to make it 3-2 and the Stars would hold the lead for the rest of the game.
Biagio Lerario and Anthony Wyse added goals in the third period to make it a 5-2 final in Omaha. Lerario, Jones and Ludvig Hoff finished with two-point games.
