St. Cloud Rox News Release
Willmar, MN - RHP Austin Dubsky (Murray State) was electrifying in almost every way to lead the Rox (20-8) to a 5-2 victory over the Stingers in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Bill Taunton Stadium. Dubsky logged 8 shutout innings and also picked off two Willmar baserunners. It is the second consecutive start the righty has logged an 8-shutout inning performance on the mound. Dubsky also faced the minimum (9 batters) through 3 innings despite surrendering 3 base runners.
Marcus Carson (Kentucky) was slotted into the lead off spot for the first time this season and dumped a soft blooper in between the pitcher's mound and the second base bag. This allowed Denis Karas (California) to score and the Rox jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning.
St. Cloud strung together three singles from Drew Freedman, Luke Ringhofer (South Dakota State), and Michael Strem (Boston College) in the 5th inning and this helped the club tally two more runs in the frame. Freedman and Ringhofer were the bulk of the offense with 5 total hits and 4 total runs scored. Rox led 3-0 after 5 innings.
In the 7th inning, Freedman and Ringhofer posted hits to begin the frame. Luke drove in Drew on an RBI single. Strem also delivered with a sacrifice fly as part of a two-run 7th. Rox led 5-0 after 7 innings.
St. Cloud was close to its 6th shutout win of the season, but Rox reliever Trevor Charpie surrendered a two-run home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
The Rox resume action against the Stingers tonight at Bill Taunton Stadium. Game 2 first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and the Rox Solid Pregame Warmup starts at 6:35 p.m on 1390 AM The Fan. LHP Dan Metzdorf (Boston College) is scheduled to start game 2. RHP Jayce Vencena (Michigan) is slated to start for Willmar.
