Dube's OT Goal Lifts Bucks Over Killer Bees

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in overtime in front of 5,308 fans in the annual McDonald's Kid's Day Game at the Laredo Entertainment Center Tuesday morning.

Team Captain Serge Dube scored just 29 seconds into overtime giving the Bucks a come-from-behind 3-2 win. It was Dube's second goal of the game, and fifth goal of the season. Dube sent a shot from the right circle past the Bees goaltender Jeff Van Nynatten, helping imrpove Laredo's record 11-1 on the season.

Laredo fell behind early by scores of 1-0, and 2-1 in the first period, before taking the win in the extra sessio.

The Killer Bees (3-5-2) took a early 1-0 lead when Dennis Maxwell scored a short-handed goal beating Bucks goaltender Kevin Beech. Laredo tied the game up ten minutes later when Igor Agarunov scored his second goal of the season, making it 1-1. Rio re-took the lead two minutes later at the 16:18 mark when David Masse scored from an odd angle from the left circle, making it 2-1 Killer Bees. The Bucks came right back and tied the game at two when Serge Dube scored his fourth goal of the season off a nice feed from James Hiebert. Jeff Bes also picked up an assist on Dube's goal. Laredo outshot Rio 15-4 in the first period.

The second period saw the Bucks unload 27 shots on Killer Bees goaltenter Jeff Van Nynatten, with Van Nynatten stopping all 27 of them. The 27 shots by Laredo in the second period set a Bees franchise record for most shots by an opponent in the second period. Beech stopped all five Bees shots he faced in the period.

The third period was much like the second as both goaltenders stopped all shots that came their way. Beech stopped all nine Bees shots, while Van Nynatten set aside all 11 Laredo shots.

In overtime Laredo scored on the only shot by either team.

Beech picked up the win in net stopping 16 shots, while improving to 5-0. Van Nynatten stopped 51 of the Bucks 54 shots on the day and fell to 0-3-2.
