With two outstanding performances, New Jersey Cardinals pitcher Erik Drown has been named the NY Penn League Pitcher of the Week (7/7-7/13) by SportsTicker. Drown went 2-0 for the week in two starts for the Cardinals. In 12 innings pitched, he allowed two runs on six hits and tallied ten strikeouts.
Drown was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an un-drafted free agent in 2003 from the University of Connecticut. On the season, Drown is 2-1 with a 4.37 ERA. He has made six appearance in 2003, four of those being starts. In 22.2 innings, he has struck out 16 and walked seven. Opponents are batting .193 against him this season.
Michael Cockrell from the Williamsport Crosscutters was named the NY Penn League Batter of the Week (7/7-7/13).
The Cardinals will take on the Crosscutters tonight at 7:15 p.m. They will wrap up the series against Williamsport Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
