Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Batavia, NY - It was a bit rainy on Tuesday night. Just a bit. Rainy enough to only allow the Muckdogs to complete 7 2/3 innings of play. In the end, it didn't really matter since the Muckdogs were leading the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, and won, by a score of 11-4.
Mahoning Valley took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the 'Dogs battled back in their half of the first pushing a run across.
Mahoning Valley would score two more in the top of the third, but then it was all downhill for the Scrappers. With runners on first and third, Muckdog Third baseman Zach Norman homered over the left field wall to give Batavia a one run lead.
Not to be outdone by his teammate with heroics, Muckdog first baseman Bryan Hansen displayed some fireworks of his own. Hansen doubled twice and tripled once and also drove in six runs for Batavia.
Muckdog pitcher Joe Diefenderfer threw five innings to pick up the win. He faced 22 batters, and allowed six hits, and three runs. Two of those runs were earned by Diefenderfer.
Batavia is in action tonight for the second game of three with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Game time is 7:05pm.
