York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.) - Andres Perez crushed a walk-off three run home run, giving the York Revolution a 4-3 win over the New Britain Bees on Thursday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win clinches the series for the Revs (13-8), who took the first from the Bees (8-12) on Tuesday before dropping the second on Wednesday.
Down two with men on the corners and two out, Perez stepped to the plate to face Bees closer Craig Stem. On a 1-1 slider, Perez unleashed and sent a missile down the left field line. The shot stayed fair, bounced off the top of an Arch Street roof and nearly reached the Codorus Creek by the time Perez had rounded the bases and was met by thrilled teammates.
The home run was Perez's fourth of the season and the third walk-off moonshot of his Revs career.
The Revs opened the game with a quick strike for the second straight night. Isaias Tejeda kept his hot week going with a one-out double in the first inning. Telvin Nash shot a two-out double of his own down the left field line to bring Tejeda home, putting York up 1-0.
Brandon Chaves tied it in the third with a solo home run down the right field line. After that, the zeros started piling up as neither team scored for the next four full innings.
York starter Jorge Martinez dueled with New Britain's Kyle Simon through five innings, with each allowing a lone run on five hits. Both starters got help from their defense, as the Bees turned double plays in the second and third innings, while the Josh Wilson-Andres Perez-Telvin Nash connection worked a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the fifth.
Mariel Checo came on for York with two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, striking out Jovan Rosa with two men on to end the seventh. Jarret Leverett matched Checo with two scoreless innings himself.
Craig Maddox led off the top of the eighth with an infield single off Michael Click. After a Jon Griffin strikeout, Jonathan Roof singled to right to put a pair of men aboard. Click got Kevin Rivers to pop out to short, bringing up Jon Jones, who promptly ripped a ground ball up the line and into the right field corner. Both runners scored and Jones ended up on third with a three-sacker, giving New Britain the 3-1 advantage.
York rallied in the bottom of the eighth with three singles, but Bees closer Craig Stem forced James Simmons to fly out to end the threat. Then in the ninth, Keith Castillo led off with an infield single. After a fielder's choice and strikeout, Tejeda laced a single to right for his third hit of the game, setting up Perez's heroics moments later.
Wes Alsup (1-0) earned his first win of the season after striking out two in a scoreless ninth. Stem (0-2) took the loss after blowing the save.
Tejeda led the way on offense for York, going 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs. Nash also had three hits, while Perez and Bryan Pounds each put together two-hit nights.
Rosa, Roof, and Jones each picked up two hits for the Bees.
Notes: Perez previously hit walk-off home runs on Sept. 2, 2012 - a three-run shot to beat Long Island 7-4 in the 10th - and July 24, 2015 - a solo crack in the ninth to down Camden 4-3. He also ended a game with a single on June 28, 2015 against Bridgeport. With his 56th home run, Perez is now three back of Chris Nowak's Revolution franchise record of 59. Nash is now hitting .405 (17-for-42) at home this season, hitting safely in all 11 games. Alsup's victory is his first professional win since Aug. 16, 2012, when he earned the W for the California League's High Desert Mavericks (Advanced-A, Seattle) over the Lancaster Jethawks. York next welcomes Sugar Land to PeoplesBank Park for the second time this season and the Revs will send right-hander Matt Neil (1-0, 2.07) to the hill against the Skeeters' Parker Frazier (3-0, 3.52) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Friday night marks the second edition of the Celebrate York Series presented by Memorial Hospital. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Marquis de Lafayette Bobblehead. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
