Greenville Drive News Release

The Greenville Drive (12-24) jumped out to an early lead on Mother's Day afternoon at Fluor Field, but they weren't able to hang on, as they dropped a 10-6 contest to the visiting Augusta GreenJackets (20-15). The two teams split the four game series.

The GreenJackets scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, thanks to an RBI double by Matt Duffy and an RBI single by Joe Rapp.

The Drive offense roared right back and knocked out Augusta starting pitcher Jose Reyes after he retired just one batter in the first inning. The highlights of the inning were a leadoff homer by Mookie Betts, his fifth of the season, and a two-run double by Tim Roberson.

Augusta added two runs in the third and knocked out Drive starter Pat Light (1-2) in the fourth after putting up four more runs, which included solo home runs by Eric Sim and Chuckie Jones.

Yunior Ortega was a bright spot for the Drive in relief of Light, as he gave up only one run and punched out three hitters in four and two-third innings of work.

Brandon Farley (3-0) got the win for the GreenJackets, as he hurled three and two-thirds, allowing only three hits and one run with four strikeouts.

Roberson went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs in the game, while Jordan Weems collected two hits of his own.

Drive first baseman David Chester was an offensive force during the series, and he was named the Hale's Jewelers Player of the Homestand for his efforts. He posted a .438 average (7-16) with three home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs.

Betts extended his hit streak to eight games with his first-inning homer, which ties the longest streak by a Drive player this season.

The GreenJackets were led offensively by Jesus Galindo, Duffy and Rapp. Galindo went 2-3 with a single, a double, two walks and scored four runs while also swiping four bases. Duffy walked three times, scored three runs and added the RBI double in the first. Rapp picked up three hits and drove in four runs of his own.

Greenville will hit the road from here, as they begin a three-game series with the division rival Asheville Tourists on Monday night. The game time is set for 7:05 p.m. LHP Cody Kukuk (2-3, 4.66) will get the start for the Drive, and he will oppose Tourists RHP Eddie Butler (3-1, 1.76).
