Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive (18-14) quickly erased the memory of last night's series opening loss to the Augusta GreenJackets (12-20), hammering the South Atlantic League Southern Division's last place team, 7-2, Tuesday night at Fluor Field.
Making his second start of the season after being mainly used out of the bullpen, Hunter Strickland took care of business on the mound. The right-hander scattered six hits and a walk, allowing just a run in the first inning, while fanning a pair. However, Strickland did not factor in decision as he lasted only 4-1/3 innings.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Greenville quickly answered their next two at bats. The Drive pounced on Ari Ronick (1-3) as Ryan Dent, Tim Federowicz, and Ryan Lavarnway all reached base before Oscar Tejeda knocked home two with a single.
An inning later, Mike Loberg's first of three errors proved costly as Will Middlebrooks reached and Kade Keowen followed with a two-run homer. It was the left-fielder's second round tripper in as many days.
The Drive tacked on another run in the fourth as Mitch Dening led off with a double, stole second, and scored on Middlebrooks' sacrifice fly. Three more GreenJackets' errors - including two on one play by Loberg - accounted for the Drive's final two runs to seal the victory.
With two outs, Dening reached base on Loberg's fielding error who then had a throwing error, that allowed Tejeda to score from second. Middlebrooks recorded the only hit of the inning with an RBI-single.
Fabian Williamson (3-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on two hits and two walks while fanning five over 2-2/3 innings. Mitch Herold held the GreenJackets scoreless over 2.0 no-hit innings, earning his first save of the season.
The Drive and GreenJackets continue their four-game series Wednesday afternoon with first pitch set for 4:05 PM. Right-hander Bryan Price will toe the rubber for Greenville as Augusta counters with right-hander Mike Loree.
