Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive seem to have the Greensboro Grasshoppers' number. For the second time this series the Greenville pitching staff posted all zeros across the scoreboard, capping the four-game series with a 2-0 win Monday night.
Led by starting pitcher Stolmy Pimentel and relievers Lance McClain and Felix Ventura, the two runs scored in the bottom of the first was all it took to earn a series split. Pimentel (1-1) only needed 55 pitches during his 5.0 inning outing, scattering five hits and fanning five to lower his earned run average to 2.03.
McClain then picked up where Pimentel left off, retiring the first seven batters he faced before issuing a walk to Isaac Galloway. It was the only baserunner the right-hander allowed, holding the âHoppers hitless in 3.0 innings while striking out four. Ventura closed the book on Greensboro, earning his first save of the season.
Just three days after finishing a double shy of the cycle, Oscar Tejeda needed just a homer Tuesday night to accomplish the feat. The shortstop singled in the first, tripled in the fifth and added a double in the seventh.
The Drive plated their only runs in their first at bat, but it was all they needed. Tejeda, Anthony Rizzo, Tim Federowicz, and Mitch Dening tallied four consecutive singles with Federowicz and Dening each recorded an RBI.
The Drive now hit the road for six games, beginning tomorrow night with a four-game series versus the Kannapolis Intimidators. First pitch at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is set for 7:05 PM as Bryan Price takes the hill for Greenville and Kannapolis counters with Greg Infante.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on Tuesday, April 28th for four games with the Savannah Sand Gnats, affiliate of the New York Mets. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
NOTES: Attendance was 4,129...the 3 shutouts versus the Grasshoppers is a franchise single-season record against one opponent
