Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Intimidators pitching staff continued to shine as Kannapolis swept a doubleheader at Bowling Green Ballpark, beating the Hot Rods 3-1 in Game 1 and 2-0 in Game Two.
Adam Bowling, Nate Jones (1-0) and Tyson Corley combined for the Intimidators fifth shutout of the season in Game 2. Bowling made the spot start, pitching four scoreless frames. Jones came in and was dominant, striking out four in two perfect innings. Corley finished it off to pick up his second save of the season.
Both runs came across on one wild play in the fourth inning. With Justin Greene at first, Drew Garcia doubled down the leftfield line. Greene scored from first, but consecutive throwing errors allowed Garcia to come all the way around and score.
The Intimidators won Game One with the usual combination of strong pitching and timely hitting. Garrett Johnson (1-1) was fantastic in six innings. The 6-foot-10 right-hander allowed just one run and struck out eight in six innings of work. Charlis Burdie fired a perfect seventh inning for his second save of the season.
Kannapolis took an early lead and never surrendered it, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Jon Gilmore and Jorge Castillo put up back-to-back two-out doubles, each driving in a run.
Castillo's lead-off double in the sixth accounted for the Intimidators only other run. John Curtis drove the first baseman in from third to push the Kannapolis lead to three.
With the wins, the Intimidators (9-3) have the best record in the South Atlantic League.
