Drillers Win Second Straight
June 7, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers made it two wins in a row Sunday afternoon with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders at ONEOK Field. The Drillers scored both of their runs in the sixth inning, and starter Chris Anderson and the Tulsa bullpen made sure the lead held.
The Drillers won despite producing only four hits in the game, but two of those came in the pivotal sixth inning. Anderson, Jeremy Horst and Jacob Rhame combined to limit Frisco to only five hits.
The only offense for Frisco came in the top of the second inning and it came in the form of an unearned run. After Nomar Mazara led off with a base hit, Anderson retired the next two batters. The inning continued when Drillers second baseman Hector Olivera misplayed a grounder off the bat of Drew Robinson. The error proved big when Luis Mendez dropped a base hit into centerfield that scored Mazara with the game's first run.
Tulsa's two-run rally in the sixth began with a leadoff double from Peter Lavin. Ali Solis laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him to third, but Adam Law went down on strikes for the second out. Luis Mateo drew a walk, bringing Yadir Drake to the plate. Drake delivered by driving a pitch from Chad Bell into the gap in right-center field. Centerfielder Jake Skole was able to cut the ball off, but Mateo was still able to race all the way home from first base to give the Drillers a 2-1 lead.
Horst pitched around a leadoff double in the eighth to keep the lead in place, and Jacob Rhame worked a 1-2-3 ninth to record his second save.
For Anderson, the win moved his record back above .500 at 5-4. In seven innings, he allowed only the one unearned run on four hits. He issued three walks and recorded seven strikeouts.
The Drillers will be off Monday and will play a doubleheader at Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday. Tulsa will send Jeremy Kehrt (3-4, 3.29 ERA) and Mickey Storey (0-1, 4.66 ERA) to the mound in Tuesday's twin-bill. The first game is scheduled to start at 5:05PM at Springdale's Arvest Ballpark.
