
Drillers Take Opener from Travs in Shutout

North Little Rock, AR-Three Tulsa Driller pitchers combined a five hit shutout of the Arkansas Travelers in a 5-0 win on Tuesday night in the opener of a four game series at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Scott Barlow pitched six innings in the start for the Drillers, striking out six and allowing only six baserunners. He earned the win to improve to 3-2 on the season. Edward Paredes (2 IP, 4 K) and Ralston Cash (IP, 2 K) combined for six more punchouts as Drillers pitching combined to strikeout 12 Travelers batters.
Tulsa struck early with a run in the 2nd. Erick Mejia picked up the RBI on a groundout scoring Jose Miguel Fernandez. The game stayed 1-0 until the seventh when the Drillers scored three times on just two hits, thanks to two walks a hit batter and a wild pitch. They tacked on their final run in the eighth utilizing a pair of walks and a pair of hit batters.
Travs starter Lindsey Caughel pitched well. Caughel was touched for just one run over five innings while picking up a season high 6 strikeouts on the night but dropped to 3-7 with the loss.
Arkansas' offense managed five hits on the night with Nelson Ward (2-3) procuring the only multi-hit contest. It was the third time in the past four games that the Travs have been shutout and seventh time overall.
The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:10. Arkansas sends right-hander Justin DeFratus (1-0, 4.74) to the hill against Tulsa righty Andrew Sopko (0-4, 4.66).
