Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Kent Emanuel scattered four hits over six innings as Corpus Christi dropped Frisco 5-1 Tuesday night at Whataburger Field before 5,859.

Emanuel (2-3) walked two and recorded seven strikeouts during an 88-pitch, 62-strike performance. He issued free passes to Michael O'Neill and Andy Ibanez in the sixth before retiring the next three men in order.

The lone RoughRiders (25-32) run, which came in the first, was unearned.

Riley Ferrell and Andrew Thome teamed to keep Frisco off the board down the stretch. Each induced a double-play ball.

Scott Heineman opened the contest with a hit through the right side and moved into scoring position via Ibanez's one-out infield single. Heineman scored as the result of an error by second baseman Jack Mayfield when Isiah Kiner-Falefa bounced into a fielder's choice.

The Hooks (29-28) exploited Ariel Jurado (6-4) for four second-inning runs. Ramon Laureano 's double to left plated Mayfield and Garrett Stubbs after they stroked one-out singles. Jason Martin doubled down the right-field line to tally Laureano.

Martin crossed when Ibanez committed a two-out error at third on Drew Ferguson 's sharp grounder.

Jurado's outing was terminated an out and two hitters into the fifth. Stubbs' bases-loaded sacrifice fly off Cody Palmquist gave Corpus Christi a 5-1 lead later in the frame. Jurado, responsible for three earned runs, two walks, and eight strikeouts over 94 pitches (62 strikes), entered having won five straight starts.

Mayfield, who doubled and singled, extended his hitting streak to nine games; Kyle Tucker, who posted his first Whataburger Field hit during the fifth, has a seven-game run.

Josh James (3-1) draws the start for Corpus Christi Wednesday at 7:05 vs. Pedro Payano (0-0).
