Drillers down Hooks

Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - Tulsa starter Marc Kaiser (9-9, 4.70) managed to earn his fourth win of the season against the Hooks on Tuesday night in a tough 5-3 loss at Whataburger Field. With the loss, the Hooks fall one game out of first in the Texas League South.

Unearned runs were the story of the game for the Hooks as Tulsa scored two of them off two uncharacteristic errors. The first came in the top of the first inning when first baseman Troy Tulowitzki scored from second when Hooks' right fielder Tike Redman dropped what appeared to be a routine fly ball to put the Hooks down 1-0.

The following inning normally solid shortstop Wade Robinson couldn't handle a Matt Miller groundball allowing Miller to reach base. Miller would then come around to score from second base on a Tulowitzki single off Hooks' starter Troy Patton (2-3, 4.44) putting the Drillers up 2-0. Patton pitched five innings of work, allowing six hits and four runs.

The Hooks bounced back, knotting the game at two a piece in the second when Jonny Ash hit a one-out double and then scored when Robinson singled him in. Robinson would then go on to score off a single from Josh Anderson.

The Drillers added one in the fourth and the Hooks again countered, as Robinson hit his first home run of the season over the left field fence to tie the game at three.

But the Drillers would not go down quietly, adding one in the fourth off a blast from second baseman Christian Colonel, one in the fifth off two singles and a sac fly, and one in the eighth when Hooks' reliever David Rollandini surrendered three consecutive hits to put the game at 5-3.

Reliever Chad Reineke continued to impress out of the bullpen, throwing a perfect sixth and seventh inning.

The Hooks look to bounce back tomorrow night as RHP Ronnie Martinez (2-1, 4.30) takes the mound for the Hooks against Tulsa's Steven Register (4-8, 5.29). Tomorrow is Elvis Night where fans dressed like Elvis get half-priced tickets and one lucky Elvis look alike will win a pair of tickets for a Hooks' playoff game.
