Calgary Drillers News Release

On the day that they announced their playing venue in Calgary, the ABA's only Canadian team squandered a halftime lead in Portland, Oregon. The Drillers lost 112-100 to the Portland Reign to end a grueling road trip that took them to Dallas, New York, Newark and Portland in less than one week. They return to Calgary for Christmas with a 1-4 record and will head on the road next week to face unbeaten Utah before coming back to their new home court, the Stampede Corral.

The Drillers announced today they will play their 18 home games at the Corral which can seat over 6,000 for basketball. Their first home game will be Tuesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. They will play a total of 9 games in January on home court. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster starting Dec. 27.

Against the Reign Calgary jumped to a 58-52 halftime lead before falling into serious foul trouble in the third quarter. Damien Owens was again the leader on the floor for the Drillers. He finished with 32 points and 7 rebounds. James Penny had his best game since joining the team in New Jersey. The CBA veteran had 15 points and 5 boards.

The Drillers will hold an open workout in Calgary on Thursday, January 30th during the school break. It will be the first opportunity for fans to meet the players and coaching staff.
