Edmonton ABA Franchise Critical for Calgary Drillers
Published on February 23, 2005 under American Basketball Association (ABA)
Calgary Drillers News Release
The Calgary Drillers Basketball Club is working hard to ensure an ABA franchise is located in the city of Edmonton Alberta for the 2005/2006 season. The presence of a franchise in Edmonton is critical to the long term success of professional basketball in Calgary and the province of Alberta.
The location of a second franchise would eliminate the difficulty of travel and back to back home games that the Drillers suffered through the past season. With the location of an Edmonton franchise teams could now come into the province and play four games in one swing. Calgary and Edmonton could play each other several times and build on the long time rivalry between the two great cities The Drillers are working with two separate groups who have expressed interest in the franchise plus a additional one who has expressed a interest in placing the franchise in a community ownership model similar to how several CFL teams are owned.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
