DAYTON, OHIO-Dayton Dragons games on Thursday, July 19; Friday, July 20; and Saturday, July 21 will be televised from Fifth Third Field. Games will be seen on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable Channel 23 and Digital Channel 372) at 7:00 p.m. The Dragons host the Clinton Lumber Kings on Thursday and Friday and the Kane County Cougars on Saturday.
Sponsors of the telecast include Texas Roadhouse, Friendship Village, John Morrell Food Group, Drake Heating and Air, Bathroom Alternatives, Greater Ohio Virtual School, Dave & Busters, DP&L, IUE-CWA, and Smoothie King.
Ohio State University head baseball coach Greg Beals will serve as guest commentator on Thursday. WHIO Radio's Larry Hansgen will handle commentator duties on Friday. Former Reds pitcher and Dragons pitching coach Doug Bair will be the commentator on Saturday.
Beals, a Springfield native, completed his second season as the coach of the Buckeyes in 2012 as the team posted a record of 33-27. They won multiple games in the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2007. Prior to his arrival at Ohio State, Beals coached for eight seasons at Ball State University, leading the team to three Mid American Conference West Division championships. Beals played at Kenton Ridge High School in Springfield and Kent State University before playing for three seasons in the New York Mets organization.
Hansgen has announced University of Dayton basketball since 1982 and UD football since 1988. He also hosts Miami Valley's Morning News on WHIO Radio. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University.
Bair spent 15 seasons in the major leagues and appeared in 584 games with the Reds, Pirates, A's, Tigers, Cardinals, Phillies, and Blue Jays. His best season came with the Reds in 1978 when he finished third in the National League in saves with 28, going 7-6 with a 1.97 earned run average. He was a member of two World Series champions, the 1982 Cardinals and the '84 Tigers. He served as Dragons pitching coach in 2007 and 2008.
The Dragons will televise 25 games from Fifth Third Field this season. Dragons Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tom Nichols handles the play-by-play on all telecasts, which are produced by the Dragons' in-house production crew.
