Dragons Lose, Stay Two and a Half out of Wildcard

Lansing, Mich.-Lansing's Dalton Pompey hit two home runs and Jordan Leyland belted a grand slam as the Lugnuts defeated the Dayton Dragons 18-6 on Monday night. Lansing salvaged a win in the three-game series as they posted the highest run total for a Dragons opponent this season.

The Dragons fell to 35-29 in the second half. Wildcard leader Great Lakes also lost, falling to South Bend 8-7, to keep the Dragons two and one-half games behind Great Lakes in the race for the final Eastern Division playoff spot with six games to play. The Dragons and Great Lakes meet in a huge three-game series starting Wednesday night in Midland, Michigan.

Dragons starting pitcher Amir Garrett (1-3) took the loss. He worked three and one-third innings and allowed 10 hits and eight runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Dragons collected 10 hits. Seth Mejias-Brean connected on his 10th home run of the season and added a double, driving in two runs. Brent Peterson was 2 for 2 with two runs batted in. Beau Amaral also added two hits.

Lansing broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead. They scored in every inning except the second and hit four home runs while collecting 17 hits.

The Dragons do not play on Tuesday before opening the series at Great Lakes on Wednesday night. Jackson Stephens (3-5, 3.88) will start for Dayton against Great Lakes' Julio Urias (2-0, 2.68).
