Lake County Captains News Release
(Comstock Park, MI)- Lance Durham hit his sixteenth homerun of the season in walk-off fashion as the Whitecaps (32-30) defeated the Captains (30-34) 4-1 on Monday Night. The homer by Durham was the third of the series. The Whitecaps swept the Captains in the three game set and finished the season series against Lake County with a 10-2 mark.
West Michigan scored first, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Harold Castro doubled and stole third base. Jared Reaves then stole hit a sacrifice fly to third base and the score was 1-0 Whitecaps. The Captains tied the game in the top of the eighth inning when LeVon Washington reached first base on a fielder's choice. The Whitecaps tried to pick him off and the throw went down the right field line. With LeVon at third base, the next pitch went to the back stop and Washington scored on the wild pitch the game was tied at 1-1 until the ninth.
RHP Dylan Baker (7-6) started the game for Lake County and did not get the decision. Baker pitched six innings and allowed two hits, one earned run, two walks and five strikeouts. Geoff Davenport (0-1) took the loss after pitching two innings and allowing three runs on three hits. He allowed the walk-off homer to Durham.
RHP Endrys Briceno (7-9) started the game for the Whitecaps and did not get a decision. Briceno pitched six innings, and allowed six hits, he walked two and fanned four. The Whitecaps used two pitchers out of the pen. The win went to Corey Knebel (2-0).
The Captains will return to Eastlake, OH for a three game series beginning on Wednesday. Lake County will start RHP Robbie Aviles (4-4, 4.23) and Lansing has yet to announce who will start the game. First pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
