Dayton Dragons News Release

Midland, Mich.-Matt Beaty's single off the glove of second baseman Shed Long brought in the winning run from second base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-3 on Friday night.

The Loons trailed the Dragons 3-2 after seven innings but tied the game with an unearned run in the eighth before winning it in the ninth. The Loons game-winning rally started with a lead-off single through the middle by Jordan Tarsovich off Dragons reliever Brennan Bernardino (2-3). Jimmy Allen sacrificed Tarsovich to second. Bernardino struck out Brian Wolfe for the second out, and the Dragons intentionally walked Nick Sell. Beaty then hit a hard ground ball to the right side of the infield. Long was there and reached for the ball, but it glanced off his glove, into right field. Aristides Aquino's throw to the plate was late as Tarsovich scored from second with the winning run.

Great Lakes scored two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Dragons loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second on three straight singles by Aristides Aquino, Avain Rachal, and Garrett Boulware. Luis Gonzalez then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Aquino and make it 2-1.

In the sixth, the Dragons again loaded the bases with no one out, getting singles by Jon Matthews and Shed Long and a walk to Gavin LaValley. After Aquino popped out and Rachal struck out, Boulware lined a single to left field to drive in both Matthews and Long to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.

Dragons starting pitcher Tejay Antone battled after a slow start and left the game with the lead. He worked five innings, allowing nine hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Dragons finished with nine hits. Boulware and Matthews each had two. Long had one to extend his hitting streak to 10 straight games.

The Dragons (23-30 in the second half; 62-61 overall) battle the Loons (23-30, 61-60) in the second game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05. Jake Paulson (5-5, 2.82) will start for Dayton against Great Lakes' Grant Holmes (6-3, 2.96). The next home game for the Dragons is Thursday, August 27 against the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field.

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
