
Snappers Too Much for Bees in Series Opener

(Beloit-WI) The Burlington Bees (54-68) fell in game one of a three game series with the Beloit Snappers (47-75), 8-2 on Friday night at Pohlman Field.
With one out in the second inning, Snappers' catcher Iolana Akau reached after being hit by a pitch. After Shawn Duinkerk singled, the bases were loaded thanks to a walk issued to Tim Proudfoot. Joe Bennie opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Akau, giving the Snappers a 1-0 lead.
Beloit got things going in the third inning with a one out single by Argenis Raga. Following a walk, Akau smacked a double to left, scoring Raga, making it a 2-0 game. Shawn Duinkerk then smashed a double to right, scoring two more runs. The inning was capped off with a Joe Bennie single, scoring Duinkerk, making it a 5-0 lead for Beloit.
The Bees got the bats going in the top of the fourth inning when David Fletcher reached base for the second time, walking to kick off the frame. After a double by Tim Arakawa, Taylor Ward put the Bees on the board with a groundout, scoring Fletcher. Later in the inning, Trevor Gretzky tripled to right, scoring Arakawa, cutting the Snappers' lead to 5-2.
Beloit added to their lead in the fourth inning. With one out, Jose Brizuela struck out swinging but reached on a wild pitch and later moved to second on a wild pitch, After stealing third, Brizuela came in to score on a Sandber Pimentel single, upping the Snappers' lead to 6-2. Joe Bennie continued his big night, upping the score to 7-2 with a double scoring Duinkerk in the fifth inning. Beloit added their final run in the eighth inning on a Aregnis Raga single, scoring Bennie, extending the lead to 8-2.
Beloit starter, Brett Graves (12-6) struck out eight hitters in five innings, earning the win and Bees' starter Keynan Middleton (5-9) was charged with the loss. The Bees and Snapper continue the series on Saturday night as Justin Anderson makes the start for the Bees against Joey Wagman for Beloit at 7:00.
