July 12, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons, in conjunction with USA Boxing, and Dayton-based Prime Performance Boxing, announced today that for the second consecutive year, Fifth Third Field will play host to a spectacular night of amateur boxing. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 12.
Fifth Third Field will be transformed into a boxing venue that will showcase Olympic hopefuls. Gates will open at 6pm, with the first fight of the evening starting at 7pm.
"We are very pleased to be partnering with USA Boxing and Milton Pearson [Prime Performance Boxing owner] for another great night of boxing at Fifth Third Field," Dragons President Robert Murphy said. "We are even more excited about the great young talent in the Dayton, Cincinnati, and Midwest areas that will be on the card, and who could be representing our country. Last year we enjoyed watching Dayton's own Chris Pearson fight right here at Fifth Third Field and he's now a top contender to make the 2012 Olympic team."
The boxing ring will be placed behind home plate and the backstop netting will be taken down. Tables will be placed around the ring on the playing field. The Fifth Third Field seating bowl, the club level, and stadium luxury suites will also be used in similar fashion to Dragons baseball games. Concession stands and suite level catering will be available as usual.
"We're pleased to be partnering with the Dayton Dragons again for a night of amateur boxing. The evening is sure to include some of the regions best amateur boxers including several Olympic hopefuls," said Milton Pearson, owner of Prime Performance boxing. "The event in 2010 was so successful =A1 - so professional =A1 - and so first class, that amateur teams are very eager to come back to Dayton and Fifth Third Field for another event."
Ticket prices are $15, $10 and $7 for stadium seats, $320 for a ringside table of 8 (which includes a buffet meal) and $15 per suite ticket.
Dragons' season ticket holders, sponsors, and suite holders will get first opportunity for tickets this week, with the general public on sale starting Monday, July 18.
